Social correspondence.
Cedar Fort, Utah Co., Feb. 18. - John Cook died at his residence here last night after a lingering illness. He was born at Comstock, Kalamazoo county, Mich., May 22, 1838; was the son of the late Bishop Henry F. and Sophronia Strobridge Cook. The family moved to Nauvoo, Ill., in the year 1846, two months later they moved to Des Moines, Ia., and a few months later to Pottawattami county. In the year 1852 the Cook family came to Utah, stopping at Union fort, Salt Lake county, till the next year, when they moved to Cedar Fort, where they have since resided. Deceased married Miss Sarah Quayle Jan. 5, 1871. He leaves a wife and eight children, three having preceded him to the great beyond. Br. Cook has been an energetic man, always staking an active interest in the growth of the great beyond. Bro. Cook has been petitions against the Indians. He was an honest, industrious man, and generally respected. Two of his sons are living in Canada.
An effort is being made here to increase the water supply of the town; two companies have been organized to develop prospects in the hills by tunneling into the mountain.
There is an epidemic of colds and pneumonia in the ward.
Snow is fast disappearing. (Deseret News, 19 February 1904:9; Improvement Era V7:477; See also: Peterson, Margery J., OUR ROOTS GROW DEEP - A History of Cedar Valley, 2nd ed [American Fork, Utah, 2003] Addendum 'John Henry Cook', p 100)
